Ambrotype photo of woman
Ambrotypes had a heyday between 1854 and 1865. They are a photograph on glass, held in a hard case. This one is a beautiful one of a woman. She appears almost like a ghost on the glass as you can see the crazed black background behind her. The case is in perfect condition, lined with velvet. I’m guessing my that the outside of the case was at some point painted black because it seems almost too perfect to be original. But this is an amazing piece.
